Looking for a Part-Time Job that Pays??

Since I've been writing for this blog, I've been getting a lot of people that are excited to try promoting parties or clubs, but they *think* that they can't because either:

a) they are currently in school

or

b) they currently have a full time job.

The number one question I've been getting emailed is: "Can I do this in my part-time"

The answer is 1,000% yes!!!

I personally started promoting parties in my part-time when I was in college...and now that I think of it, almost everyone I know or have worked with in this business, started doing it part time.

As I talk about in my book, The Party Promoter Guide, I started throwing parties in college just so I would have enough money to go away on Spring Break. I never thought that I would make it into a (lucrative) career!

I began throwing parties when as a full-time college student so I fully understand that many new promoters can only promote part-time or "on the side".

…And, that's totally fine--because promoting can still be very profitable part-time!!!

If you think about it, promoting is the perfect part-time job to help you supplement your lifestyle, because all the parties and clubs you'll be promoting will be done AT NIGHT and ON THE WEEKENDS.

  • If you work a 9-5 job, promoting will not get in the way.
  • If you are a full-time student, and have classes all day, just promote on the side when you have free time or when you don't have midterms and finals.

The beauty of this business is the flexibility that it gives you...you can start and stop whenever you want. You can promote 1x a week, 1x a weekend, 1x a month or
whenever. There are almost no expenses involved, so you can throw, or promote, a party whenever your schedule allows you to!

*********************************************************
Real Life Example:
I have a friend in Boston, MA that promoted when he was in college but when he graduated, he took a job selling mortgages, where he does very well. But to this day, he still promotes parties a few times per year to help supplement his income.
He promotes New Years Eve, Halloween, and one other party a year (4th of July or Memorial Day) and he brings in about $8,000 from just promoting a few nights a year. Imagine making $8k for only working a couple nights!!! Lucky for him, he's been
able to keep in touch with all his contacts that he had in college and when these big events come around, he gets all his clients to come to his party and he totally cleans up!

*********************************************************

So, the point of this post is to let you know that YES, you can promote parties part-time or "on the side" if you want.

You don't have to be a money hungry, party promoting, freak like me, to make some money in this business. (Although, it doesn't hurt.)

My advice to you: download a copy of my step-by-step Party Promoting Guide at
http://www.partypromoterguide.com/nlletter.html

Read through it, and then try promoting a little on the side...see if you like it...and when you do (everyone seems to like to get paid to party so I'm assuming you will too) you can slowly throw more and more parties, and then decide if you want to take it to the next level.

What it takes to be a Promoter…Part 2

As I mentioned last week, someone will ask me at least once per
day..."what does it take to be a promoter"? People seem to be
very interested in learning about the business but for some
reason they assume that they don't have "what it takes" to
be a success.

So last week I wrote to you about the "Promoter Myth's" that
are often tied to this business and showed you how they are just
that...myth's.

Well, the question still remains, "What does it take to be
a promoter"?

In Part 2 of the two-part post, I'm going to
briefly show you some of the key characteristics and traits
of the most successful promoters in the world...

3 Most Common Characteristics and Traits of Big time Promoters:

They're Proactive:
Over my years, I've realized that being proactive is the
difference between the people that make it big and the people
that fail, in promoting.

Thinking ahead of the curve, seeing opportunities before every-
one else and taking advantage of them is an amazing way to pad
your wallet without a lot of work.

If you're going away on Spring Break, be proactive and set up
a party for everyone in your school. All it would take would be
a bunch of phone calls and a little work before you leave and you
could have your entire Spring Break paid for! (I know it works,
because I did it)

Don't wait for people to tell you "I wish we had an after-hours
party to go to this weekend"...be proactive and see that an
after-hours following a big event is a good chance for you to
cash-in and set it up way ahead of time!

They are Outgoing:
Your job as a promoter is to get as many people to come to your
party as possible. Ideally, you'd like everyone in the place
to know you, and be there for you.

Your name is going to help you pull people to your parties,
so you want to make sure everyone knows it!

In order for you to be well-known, you're going to have to be
outgoing and meet as many people as you can.

This means you are going to have to approach random people
in odd places, such as:
-your classes
-at your gym
-in your office
-on the street
-etc.

Also, when you're at your party there are going to be tons of
people there that you will not know...friends of friends or
random walk-in's and it's to your benefit to approach them
so you can win them as a client...and the more clients you have
the more money you will get.

So the more outgoing you are, the more people you will know,
the more clients you will have, and the more money you will earn!
(Sounds pretty easy, right?)

They are VERY Interested in Making BIG Money:
I hope this doesn't sound too shallow, but it's true. All the
successful promoters I know are out to make a lot of money.
...and they do!

When I started out in this business, I didn't have any experience,
and I didn't have special skills. But I WANTED to make--actually,
I NEEDED to make--money...and that drove me to become successful.

When I started out, I didn't have most of the traits that
typical promoters had...like being outgoing, a leader, being
proactive, or just creative...but what I did have was a strong
desire to make lots of money, so that forced me to learn these
skills in order to be successful. I had to be outgoing or people
wouldn't show up and I had to be creative to think of ways to get
people to my party.

My desire to get paid, pushed me to learn
the other skills that make people successful in this
business...and I know it can do the same for you!

What it takes to be a Promoter...

When you're starting out in any new business one of the most
common questions people ask themselves is "do I have what it
takes to make it in this business". By nature, people always
seem to doubt that they have the skills or the born ability to
be successful in a business...which is why I commonly get asked

"What does it take to be a promoter"?

So I’m doing a 2 part blog to address this EXTREMELY popular
question.

The first post will dispel many of the more common
"promoter myth's" that surround the job. In the second post,
I’m going to give you the "characteristics of a successful
promoter"...so be sure to check it out next week.

So let’s start this week with some of the most common "Promoter
Myth's" that people tie to the job...

You Have to be A Guy:

I've heard people say only men can make it in this business.

**FALSE**.

When you're first starting out, it's actually easier to be a female.

Men will go where the women are...it's a fact.

It's much easier to pull groups of men to your parties than

it is to pull women. So, if you're a female, you already have

better access to groups of women
(your friends, girls in your classes or women you work with etc)
who trust you and will happily go to your party...and having big
groups of women makes it easier to throw a good party.

It also helps to be female when you're promoting to girls that
you don't know--it's easier to gain their trust when a female
is promoting to them--they don't think it's a shady party or
one of those that has 100 guys and only 5 girls.

Some of the MOST successful promoters I know are women. It's true
that there are more men than women promoters, but all the female
promoters that I know are very successful...so my advice to all
women out there--give it a try!

You Need a Degree in Business:

**FALSE**

It's very common these days for people to think that you need a degree in
something to be successful in that business. But promoting
is one of those jobs that they don't teach you about in school,
but rather, it's learned on the job. You can learn everything
you need on the job (or if you want to save time and money,
read my guide)

My former partner, and one of the best promoters I've ever met,
never even went to college. He was a DJ that turned promoter
and never spent a day in school after he graduated high school.

He used his amazing personality and his drive to be RICH to make
him a HUGE success in this business. He now owns restaurants and
night clubs in 3 cities!!

(Note: Going to school and being well educated will not hurt you
in this business--it can only help you--I’m just saying that you
don't HAVE to have a degree to be successful)

Mr. (or Ms.) Popular:

**FALSE**

You don't have to be born popular, but it doesn't hurt if you are.

If you're not already popular, promoting will make you well

known, very quickly.

If you're not popular before you begin, that's not a problem,
but you might have to work a little harder to get out there
and let people know about your party.

If you are already popular and have lots of groups of friends,
it'll make your job that much easier. But again, this is
something that you will develop as you do the job. The longer
you promote, the more well known you will become (which means
your job will get easier and easier as time goes on)

You have to be the Life of the Party:

Again, **FALSE**.

You don't have to be the life of the party, but it certainly doesn't hurt.
I've known a few promoters that don't love going out, but they
look at the job from a business point of view and still manage to
throw amazing parties. They go out every night, but they don't
party hard---they just do their work and go home. Personally,
I love my job and enjoy partying, so I never mind being in the
middle of a good party!

Those are some of the most common "myth's" I hear people say
about promoters, but I want you to know they are ALL FALSE.
People love to hate on others… be prepared that, when you are doing

well with your business, and brining in lots of money, people are going to
get jealous and say things to discourage you...DON'T LET THEM!

Next week, I'll discuss the most common characteristics I've
found in successful promoters.

Want a Job that you might actually Love???

The other day I was watching TV, just flipping around the channels and i heard something about some news poll that over half of American's are unhappy at their current job.

I couldn't believe this number...I thought that the number had to be way too high. So I went online, searched around, and found out this was the truth...but not just for Americans... for most of the world!

Estimates say 6 million people in the UK are unhappy at work, and over 50% of the population in both the US and Australia are unhappy at their job!

This is so crazy to me...we all spend a lot of time at our jobs each day...shouldn't people at least like what they do???

Maybe it’s because I've never worked a real 9a-5p job and the only job I’ve ever really known is party promoting, but I truly LOVE my job and everything that it involves.

To see if I was some sort of a freak, I decided to ask a group of my fellow promoters to see if they felt the same way as I did, and if so, what their favorite part of the job was...

Everyone of them said they "LOVED" their job…and here is a short list of the most common answers as to why:

  • Well compensated (bars and clubs work on high profit margins with selling alcohol, so they are able to pay their promoters well to fill the venues with thirsty customers!)
  • Get to Party for FREE (besides obviously not having to pay to get into the party, you also will get to drink free too)
  • Instant celebrity status (No, you're not going to be Brad Pitt or Angelina, but like it or not, promoters are extremely popular and powerful within their social circles)
  • Job Flexibility (Promoting allows you freedom to work as much or as little as you want, and you have no set hours to be in an office and no boss to report to)

And since I’m writing this, I thought I'd also add a few of MY own personal favorites...

  • I get to sleep in during the day. (I'm not a morning person)
  • I can go to the gym in the middle of the day when its empty since everyone else is at work.
  • I can be outside in the middle of the day when its actually nice outside and when the sun is still up!
  • I get to stay up all night.
  • I get to meet lots of beautiful women and some of the biggest celebrities and athletes in the world!
  • I am PAID, a lot, to party!!!!

If you're part of the majority of people that are unhappy in their current job...or you're in school and unsure what to do when you're done (and want to avoid falling into that "job hating" group), then I really suggest trying your hand at party promoting...you can even try it out in your part- time and there are almost no costs to start, so you really have nothing to lose!

If you're looking for a cool job that you will actually enjoy, provides you with amazing benefits, and has big earning potential, then I recommend looking into the nightclub/party promoting business.

A look inside the World of a Nightlife, Party & Event Promoter

What's up everyone?
My name is DG and I’m going to be your host of this brand new section of Urban Surfing...

"Behind the Rope: A look inside the World of a Nightlife, Party & Event Promoter"

A little about me:
I've been promoting nightclubs, bars, parties and all kinds of events in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas as well as many other cities all over the world, for the past 10+ years.

I started out promoting some bars in college just to make extra cash to help me afford to go out and party each weekend....10 years later, I’m still promoting and hosting events as my full-time living.

Over the years I’ve made lots of connections and met tons of people which has led me into a new avenue of nightlife--- ownership.

I'm obsessed with promoting...Some might say too obsessed. I love to go out... and I love to get paid... so promoting parties is a dream come true since I get paid to go out and party!

Over the years, I’ve had a ton of people that know what I do for a living ask me "how can I get into the promoting business" or "can you teach me to be a promoter like you".

So, I decided to write a How-to e-book about becoming a promoter...and to my surprise (since I’m not much of a writer) the book has been a HUGE hit!

I knew there were people out there that wanted to know about this business but I really never realized how many people out there are dying to get their hands on this information.

You wouldn't believe how many people want to start their own promoting business or get involved with promoting weekly parties...I literally get HUNDREDS of emails a day asking me questions about promoting.

...and that lead us to this blog...

In this space, I’m going to be writing a weekly column addressing some of the most common questions about:

  • being a promoter
  • tips to get started
  • how to make money in this business
  • best parties to throw
  • how to pick a money making venue
  • ways to fill your party every week
  • and just about anything else people would like to know.

(feel free to write in and let me know what questions or topics you'd like me to cover)

So be sure to check back each week to learn what's going on...
